Recently, my family and I went on the Voyager Of The Seas on a cruise around the South Pacific. Noumea was our first port of call! Noumea is the capital city of New Caledonia a collectivity of France, which is situated in the South Pacific. It is a French speaking country but most people also speak English. Noumea is an industrial city with some beautiful beaches. Noumea is hot all year round so anytime of year is a great time to go. I have travelled to Noumea on numerous occasions and I have put together a few things that are great to do while in Noumea! Firstly, as Noumea is part of a French collectivity, there is lots of French bakeries! They are everywhere so they are easy to find. The food, sweet and savoury are delicious! There is so many delicious things to choose from that you can’t just walk away with one item! When in Noumea, you should definitely also try to go to some markets. There are some lovely handicrafts for sale that local people have made. You will most likely find lots of pretty jewellery, sarongs, clothes and souvenirs. They are also quite affordable. Anse Vata beach is Noumea’s main and best beach. It is a beautiful spot. The water is very blue and calm. There are lots of shady trees, which is great as it gets very hot in Noumea. Anse Vata beach is a very nice place to relax and read a book or go swimming! TO READ MORE CLICK BELOW There are so many beautiful islands that are only a short distance from Noumea. I have been to Duck Island ( Ile aux Canards) which is extremely beautiful. I would recommend going in the morning and spending a few hours there. To get to Duck Island you catch a five-minute water taxi from Anse Vata beach. That is a lot of fun! It costs $30 per person to go to the Island, which I think is quite good. You can also pay $19 to hire a chair with an umbrella on the beach for the day. I definitely recommend hiring a chair as it is good to store your things on and to sit on and read your book in the shade! There is great snorkelling not to far from the shore. There are lots of beautiful fish and really nice coral. We also saw some large turtles, which were so lovely to see in their natural habitat. We got to get quite close as well, which was fantastic! You can hire snorkel gear on the island but DEFINITELY try to bring your own equipment as it is very expensive to hire. There is one café on the island, which is also very expensive, so I recommend going to a supermarket or bakery before you go and buying food and drinks to take over. I definitely recommend Duck Island and I would love to go there again.
I also love Hideaway Island. It is a beautiful island also located a short distance from Noumea. The snorkelling was beautiful and there were some gorgeous photo spots around the island! Visit my instagram and and facebook to learn more!
